Fourth Fiction: The Complete Season

Fourth Fiction was a blog-based literary reality show in which 12 contestants, writing pseudonymously, each began a novella. Readers eliminated them, one by one, along the way, until one winner completed his or her novella. I (Host) delivered a literary challenge and announced the eliminated contestant in a YouTube video at the beginning of each round. Watch the introductory video for an overview. The Chain Story

Fourth Fiction Chain Story (Ball and Chain)For the final part of the pre-contest phase,  the 12 contestants worked on a chain story on the Fourth Fiction Twitter page. I provided the opening lines for the story at midnight, July 24th, and the contestants developed it as they wished, writing one post per 24-hour cycle. Pre-Contest Chain Story Video

The pre-contest literary dares are now over. As of midnight tonight, July 24, the contestants will begin a chain story on the Fourth Fiction Twitter page. The contestants will then develop it as they wish, writing one post per 24-hour cycle, until August 4th when the competition proper begins. I will also be posting all of their writing here on the website. Watch this video for details:

Each Fourth Fiction pre-contest dare was posted at midnight on the Fourth Fiction Twitter page between July 14th and July 24th. The contestants had 24 hours to respond to each dare. The outside responses by non-contestants are also included (after the contestants’ responses) in many of the posts. For more details about these pre-contest literary dares, see this video.

DARE 1 – Come up with a caption for this cartoon.

DARE 2 – Tweet a story that involves an act of cannibalism.

DARE 3 – Write something from the perspective of a sperm.

Pre-Contest Literary Dares

As of today, July 14, there will be pre-contest literary challenges known as ‘dares’ posted at midnight EST each day on the Fourth Fiction Twitter page. The contestants will now write a maximum of one tweet per day and only in response to the dare. Watch this brief video for details:

Fourth Fiction Twitter Launch July 4th

THE JULY 4TH LAUNCH for Fourth Fiction—the first blog-based reality show—is nearing. Here’s how it will work. On the night of July 4th, I will briefly introduce the 12 contestants through a blog post here on Fourth Night. At midnight each of them will be given access to the new Fourth Fiction Twitter page, where they can begin posting.

I recently announced that Fourth Night will soon host a blog-based literary reality show– Fourth Fiction–where twelve writers will vie to complete a short novel while readers vote them off, one by one.
